The carrier grade 4x10G CWDM/DWDM transponder designed for metro optical networks. It provides multi rate services (switched and continuous) supporting 1.25G to 11.3G, thereby maximizing the utilization of existing fiber resources through wavelength conversion and 3R relay regeneration. Adapting 8 SFP+ plug-in ports and various CWDM and DWDM line side, the device is compatible with OTNS8600 series chassis, providing stability of performance, low power consumption and overall monitoring for stable operation of metro network.
In order to satisfy different service access requirements of metro optical networks, our transponder offers these core interface and service features:
• 8 pluggable SFP+ optical ports for flexible service access
• Supports 4 bidirectional or 8 unidirectional 1.25G~11.3G services
• Compatible with GE 10GE FC STM CPRI and other metro service types
This flexible interface architecture also allows for integration of different metro services without costly hardware upgrades, ensuring protection of existing network investments.
Our line side is designed with the utmost deployment flexibility in mind and supports CWDM or DWDM technologies to meet varied metro network pay off plans:
• CWDM: 18 wave wavelength options for cost effective metro access
• DWDM: 96 wave at 50GHz for high density metro core transmission
• Supports WDM transceivers with CDR for stable signal transmission
Designed for diverse metro access and core transmission expansion requirements, these flexible WDM solutions scale with customer needs to meet every budget level.
The transponder incorporates the following important protection and regeneration functions to facilitate long distance signal integrity with metro transmission network safety:
• 3R (Re-Amplification Re-Shaping Re-Timing) regeneration for all supported services
• Line side and client side loopback testing for quick fault localization
• Automatic laser switching for maintenance safety
These functions ensure stable signal transmission over long distances, offer protection from equipment damage during maintenance work, and allow for proactive network health management.
Comprehensive Performance Monitoring
The transponder provides the following real-time monitoring capabilities for end-to-end network visibility:
• Real-time monitoring of optical module temperature current voltage and optical power
• Full compatibility with OTNS8600 series network management systems
• Interface configuration loopback for easy troubleshooting
These monitoring features minimize operational complexity, facilitate early fault detection and enhance metro optical network availability.
When utilized in existing metro optical transport platforms, our transponder is ideal for:
• Fully compatible with all OTNS8600 series chassis
• Occupies only 1 slot for high density equipment room deployment
• Maximum power consumption of 16W with optical module for energy efficient operation
The small low power design is easy to be deployed in the existing metro networks while reducing infrastructure costs and operating expenses.
In this paper, we focus on the deployment scenarios of a flexible 4x10G CWDM DWDM transponder that takes advantage of its flexible design and multi service support in addition to meet those metro optical network requirements:
• Metro optical network service aggregation and transmission
• Legacy service migration and network upgrade
• Enterprise private networks and data center interconnect
• Mobile backhaul and fronthaul for 4G 5G networks
• Storage area network transmission for FC services
It serves as the dependable bridge between access metro and core networks, facilitating simple network evolution and fiber resource optimization.
